iCreate Board Meeting, Saturday afternoon

#Mountainair Online has been unofficially notified of an iCreate board meeting tomorrow afternoon, Saturday April 27.  Presumably, the meeting will be at Lenora Romero's as usual, although neither that nor the agenda have been confirmed.

For times, more specific information and meeting agenda call Lenora Romero 847-2419 or Kay Stillion, 847-2301

Saturday is also a Community Garden workday, starting at 9 am, followed by a planning meeting at 1 pm. Logically, the iCreate meeting would be later in the afternoon. Whether or not it will be after the Musical Theater Improv class (3 pm, MAoB) or if the class will be cancelled on account of the meeting was not specified. Call Kay to find out.

next #Mountainair iCreate recital & meeting

Update from Kay Stillion, who writes,

Our next Mountainair recital is all violin students, Estrella Griego, Samantha Torrez and Jaiden Martinez, who will perform Saturday January 21, 2:30 pm at Pack's Cafe at the Shaffer.  Interested in our community based music outreach program and trying out violin or guitar lessons yourself? Call 847-2301 for more information. iCreate welcomes guests at meetings and activities. If you have a guitar or violin not being used, we can always use more musical instruments too as well as volunteer instructors.

The next iCreate returns to the 4th Saturday schedule interrupted by holidays and will be January 28, 2:30 pm at Lenora Romero's. We hope to be announcing exciting news about iCreate funding and development very soon. Look for our finding a new home and expanding music outreach, youth programs, community garden/sustainability mission, and developing new educational and creative projects.

Briefly Updated + Edible Education [video]

Meeting changes:
  • Today's Community Garden Workday and Fall Planning session at Mountain Arts on Broadway site has been postponed to October, but Joan E, Kristine and Addie will be at the garden around 10am to do some tidying up and planning extended beds. Volunteers and visitors, as ever, are welcome. Today might be a good day to drop by and ask questions.
  • Due to the Shaffer Hotel closing Thursday (no more Packs Family at the helm), the iCreate board will meet at Lenora's.  Since the meeting is not being held in a public location, this one will not, as per usual policy, be open to the public. If you have questions about iCreate or wish to suggest items for the agenda, call Kay Stillion at 847-2301. Agenda items include: music outreach donations and thank you notes, new location for Mountainair classes; grant plans and deadlines, community garden and SEEDS project
Associated Links: I embed links just in case anyone reading is interested in following them. Today's links added to the video notice strike me as being of particular interest. The Edible Schoolyard is a lovely site, definitely worth a visit, and certainly related to SEEDS, the community outreach and sustainability components of the iCreate mission. Joan Embree will certainly be familiar with Chez Panisse and its foundation.

#CommunityGarden Coffee & Conversation, Thu Sep8

A Mountainainair announcement x-posted to Mountainair Announcements and listed on the Community Calendar. Community Garden Manager Joan Embree writes to invite community gardeners and supporters of the Mountainair Community Garden

Gardeners and friends of the community garden: We will gather Thursday at 10 am at Alpine Alley to talk about this gardening season and next.  Bring ideas.

Among the questions we might discuss is whether or not to have a booth at this year's Arts and Crafts Fair in November.  Last year we had LOTS of green tomatoes to deal with.  This year, not.  What could we make and sell while we're talking up the community garden effort?

Hope to see you Thursday ~ Joan Embree

And finally, a few gardening links to tide you over until Thursday's meeting:
Ed. Note: this is all the agenda available for this meeting, Presumably a de facto agenda would also include: garden update; financia report (account balance, disbursements and projected expenses); informal recap of this season's gardening and the experimental "instant garden;" discussion and tentative decision-making about the garden's location and plans for the next growing season; off-season and fall/winter gardening plans

Saturday Mar 26: iCreate meeting

...11 am at the Shaffer Hotel, #Mountainair, for the record and in case you missed earlier announcements

Presumably adequate reminders have sent by, whether or not to the extended list, I cannot say. If so, then advance apologies but not regret if I send this link around as reminder, brief catch up and agenda. Meeting are open: visitors always welcome to join us.

I included points from the agenda notes in "Coming up this week end in Mountainair" post on Mountainair Announcements.  This version is more developed. There is, however, no guarantee (little likelihood for that matter) that the meeting will follow the order below:

Announcements
  • Joan Page will be moving this summer and stepping down from the board at that time or sooner
  • Scott Remmich has offered to write the Scotts Miracle Grow grant that I sent information on for the community garden, blog post waiting in the wings. The deadline is a March 31 EST.
  • iCreate will be publishing an anthology of poetry in memory of Merris Atman. Submission deadline is May 24, 2011. Limited calls and out to Poetry in the Schools program and other interested parties with the wider general scheduled for April 1 to coincide with the beginning of National Poetry Month 2011
Reports
  • Minutes of February meeting
  • Treasurer's Report
  • Poetry project: call for poems to publish online; offering hard copy printed on demand if interest warrants
  • Meeting with Ben Steinlage Saturday March 12 before about update on poetry project, specifically information ~ costs, options, etc ~ on producing a print version of the anthology
  • Community Garden (if available, otherwise wait until I comb through my emails and post a separate report here. As a general rule, garden updates, reports and announcements are posted separate from iCreate
  • Weekly Jam Sessions
  • Grant spending update: 2 earned guitars and recitals (approx $100/each)
Old Business
  • May 20 concert at Off Center Arts: nine performers have been lined
  • 2010 annual report
New Business
  • Come up with a catchy name for concert
  • Discuss and vote on whether or not to renew MMAC membership

Not really on agenda but mentioned and could come up:
  • Participation in mentoring program, Anne Ravenstone, MES

Mountainair Community Garden workday Sat Feb26 and other news

Tomas Wolff reports...

Brief Farmers Market update: Thursdays 3-7 pm in the town square space in front of Dr Saul, tentatively opening 1st Thursday in May. The Mountainair Farm and Garden Market issued a call for local growers / home gardeners, food producers and processors of hand-crafted foods, artisans to participate as vendors. Contact Rebecca Lueras, rebeccalue@aol.com, or Kristine Lauritsen, stonehousegallery@gmail.com, for more information. Vendor forms will be available soon. The steering committee is also working on developing a web presence.

This information on starting seeds is probably too simplistic for advanced gardeners, but perhaps good for a review!

Will anyone be attending the Water Conservation and Xeriscape Conference in Albuquerque on February 24-25 (Thursday and Friday)? Please come tell us about it at the workday and/or send a report to post here.

Next Meeting ~ Saturday Feb. 26th

The meeting will be a seeds planting day, 10 AM. We have a plan to plant at least 100 seedlings (or more) depending on our speed and thoroughness.
