Soil Presentations, Santa Fe April 13-15

The Santa Fe Farmers' Market Institute is cosponsoring the first session of this year’s Carbon Economy Series, featuring Dr. Elaine Ingham, Chief Scientist for the Rodale Institute and world-renowned expert on soil biology, next weekend April 13–15 at Santa Fe Community College. In exchange for our sponsorship, all vendors of the Santa Fe Farmers Market who are interested will be attending the entire workshop for free. Over 40 farmers have signed up already!

All the events listed below are also open to the public. The day long workshops are $175 per day, or $300 for the entire weekend, but the Friday night introductory presentation is only $10 and provides an overview of Dr. Ingham’s cutting edge work in healthy soil management. Below are all the details:

 
Rodale Institute

Living Soil is Where It’s At
Dr Elaine Ingham, Rodale Institute, discusses healthy soil biology, fertility and high production yield.
When: Friday, April 13, 7–9 p.m.
Where: Santa Fe Community College, Jemez Room, 6401 Richards Ave.
Tickets: $10

Introduction to Soil Foodweb
Dr. Ingham explains in detail how soil becomes foods for plants.
When: Saturday, April 14, 2012—All Day Workshop, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Where:Santa Fe Community College, Jemez Room, 6401 Richards Ave.
Tickets:$175, or $300 with Friday and Sunday programs.

Soil Foodweb and Compost Tea Technology
Dr Ingham teaches how to heal soil and plants by altering the biology of the soil instead of adding expensive chemical additives. Includes work with microscopes and students’ soil samples.
Working on compost tea with many people around the world has brought a greater understanding of how to properly manage thermally produced compost, vermicompost and compost tea to guarantee disease-suppressive, soil-building, nutrient-retaining composts and compost teas.

Dr. Elaine Ingham
Chief Scientist at Rodale Institute and President and Director of Research at Soil Foodweb Inc., Dr. Ingham is one of the world’s leading soil microbiologists with 30 years of experience researching and teaching about creatures under the soil. Her energetic and easy-to-understand teaching style brings the soil foodweb to life. Dr. Ingham holds a doctorate in Microbiology with an emphasis on soil from Colorado State University. She is also an affiliate professor at Maharishi University of Management in Iowa and has served in academia for two decades. Soil Foodweb, Inc. helps farmers all over the world to grow more resilient crops by understanding and improving their soil. Rodale Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to pioneering organic farming through research and outreach.
