Time to get growing...

#Mountainair Community Garden manager Joan Embree writes,

Gardeners and friends,

With May 15 passed, those who have adopted plots at the community garden can (probably) safely plant veggies, flowers, whatever... starting now.  A few brave souls have already put in some starts.

We work every Saturday from 10 am to about noon, and whenever else the mood strikes us. The keys to the work sheds -- tools, seeds, etc.-- are hidden out back of the sheds for access. (Just ask if you need to know where. Send my your email address too ~ it's always a pleasure to add new gardeners to our list)
There are still beds available for adoption, including several that have been dug and amended, others started, a few ready for some "no-till" action if that's your preference. Goat and horse manure, and some dirt are available for incorporation, although the soil seems to be fairly decent. Apparently, all those years as a wood storage yard have been good for our garden area.
sunflower-farmNext Saturday, May 26, several community gardeners will be getting "on the road" to go look at the Rio Grande Community Farm and other community efforts.  Our travelers may include Tamra Hays, fresh off the plane from parts waaaaay east. Hopefully, the watering system will be completely functional by then, so the garden won't miss us.

Not involved yet? Come by and check the garden anytime and to pick out a plot and do some gardening yourself. The Mountainair Community Garden is working to get more community members involved in growing food for their families, for selling at local farmers markets such as Mountainair's own Farm & Garden Market, or a local food pantry program.

PS ~ Ed Note: since the community garden is nominally (and for purposes of 501(3c) status) an iCreate SEEDS project, updates will be posted here, tagged "community garden," linked to community blogs and occasionally cross posted as appropriate. Posts also appear on Facebook at Mountainair Online and on my personal Twitter stream, tagged both #Mountainair and #communitygarden. Our modest but visible digital footprint is steadily growing.
